BioCardia announces issuance of patents related to cell and gene therapy and drug eluting stents

South San Francisco, CA., April 09th 2004

BioCardia, Inc. announces the issuance of US Patent No. 6,716,196 entitled “Catheter System for Delivery of Therapeutic Compounds to Cardiac Tissue”, assigned to the University of California and exclusively licensed to BioCardia. The patent, invented by Michael Lesh, M.D., a respected physician and life sciences entrepreneur, describes biotherapeutic delivery of cells and genes directly into the heart using a catheter.

BioCardia also announces the issuance of US Patent No. 6,716,242 entitled “ Pulmonary Vein Stent and Method for Use”. The patent, describes drug eluting stent technologies in which the drug elutes from only a portion of the stent structure.
