BioCardia is an early stage medical device company developing and manufacturing minimally invasive tools for cardiovascular therapies. BioCardia has one product line cleared for use by the FDA with growing sales, another product line in clinical trials, and ongoing development of next generation products.  We are pre-IPO and located in South San Francisco convenient to the city and the peninsula.

OPEN POSITIONS

Research and Development Engineer (Mid & Senior Level Considered)

Duties and Responsibilities:
·   Research, design develop, and evaluate catheter based products from initial design to market release
·   Direct and support personnel & vendor activities to advance the project
·   Maintain appropriate documentation through all phases of research and development, generating standard engineering documentation including: specifications, drawings, build documentation, test protocols & reports, failure analysis, and other relevant documents.
·   Take ownership for constructing a Design History File (with assistance from other team members).
·   Contribute to intellectual property of company by identifying and documenting innovative solutions to project related challenges
 
Education/Experience Requirements:
·    BS or MS in Mechanical engineering or equivalent with a minimum of 2 years experience in medical devices. Prefer 3-5 years.
·    Proven track record of successful product development using a variety of design tools and prototyping techniques.
·    Strong team-working and communication skills.
·    A drive to get the job done in the face of obstacles and time constraints.
 
Highly Desirable Skills / Experience / Knowledge:
·    Experience in using the design control process to build a design history file for a product successfully submitted to the FDA.
·    Experience with a range of catheter construction methods, preferably having built product with a variety of coils, braids, jackets, liners, hypotubes, pull wires, etc.   Product examples could be: Composite guiding catheters, micro catheters, guide wires, and catheters with special tips which actuate in some way
·    At least a rudimentary understanding of cardiovascular anatomy, pathology, & clinical practice.
·    The ability to prototype core concepts rapidly and resourcefully
·    Machine shop experience.
·    A working knowledge of SolidWorks
